Camping!

Laurels at Shad Landing Campground

I have been camping with my family for the past few days. We went to Shad Landing in Maryland with two other families, and we had a lot of fun! I didn't get pictures though because, well, I was busy having fun. We got a group space, so the kids had lots of running around room. They didn't really need it though since the campground was nearly empty.

I did my best to stick to primal eating. We did our cooking mostly in packets, or on sticks (as it should be!) and kept it very simple. I need to learn more campfire cooking. I confess to eating a s'mores cone, and it was goooooood. We went on lots of walks, and the kids even discovered a hatch of the tiniest frogs I ever imagined, no bigger than a pencil eraser. So cute!

After we broke camp, we drove up to Ocean City to walk on the boardwalk. We meant to go swimming, but it was a bit chilly and windy. I can't wait to go again when it is warmer. Mary Lee and Katherine the Great had better look out, the kids are coming in!

Today was a trail ride at Pfeiffer Stables in Cape Charles, VA. The kids learned to ride at their summer camp 3 years ago, and we always enjoy visiting!

P.S. 2 more pounds down this week! Woohoo!

FitBit update for the Week 5/26/15

I actually hit my goal for steps! 71,243 steps for the week, and 31 miles. I guarantee I won't be hitting that this week, because in the process, I managed to overstress my foot again. I guess I still need to be pretty cautious with it. The most fun day walking, was the day that my friend and I took our kids for a horseback ride. The kids rode, and my friend and I walked and walked. One of these days I will get back to where I can ride again.

Since I can't walk any distance right now, I am back to my DDP Yoga. Not that I ever left it! Just that it is my primary focus again. Stand Up is really helping my balance. A lot of people ask about modifications for needing to be on their knees in yoga. I couldn't put any weight at all on my kneecaps when I started out. My knees had a lot of inflammation, and it was very painful. So what I did was use a folded up towel. I put it across my mat, so that my weight rested below my kneecaps, at the very top of my shinbones. I didn't need to use that particular modification for very long before my knees stopped hurting and the inflammation went down.

26.48 miles walked last week!

My daughter and I at Kiptopeke State Park hiking

I have let myself get off track with my yoga. In my defense, it is because of my newfound joy of being able to just put on my hiking boots, and decide to go walk 5 miles. I couldn't even have done that last fall. Also, the weather has been perfect for walking but I know in a few weeks it will be too hot and humid to walk every day.

So why am I suddenly able to just walk so much when I couldn't before? I am honestly trying to put my finger on it. I think it is because I have reached a place with my core strength where I am able to stand straighter. I can get more air in. My back doesn't hurt nearly as much, although I still need to stop and touch my toes about every mile to relieve pain that starts to build. My feet are starting to pay the price for it though. I really do need to keep up my yoga practice or I think I will get too stiff and I won't be able to walk to so much again. Last week I walked 60,696 steps (20,000 in one day for a fitbit badge) which according to fitbit is 26.48 miles for the week. But also I think that 20,000 in a day is the reason my feet are hurting me now.

I am also starting to lose weight again, oh hallelujah! I have been sticking to my primal eating fairly strictly for the past few weeks and it is working like magic. I tracked my calorie intake for a few weeks very strictly, through the fitbit app. It turns out that I was actually not eating as many calories as I would have thought I was. I didn't try to change my eating, I was just tracking what I normally eat, and it was coming in between 1300 and 1600 calories normally. A few days I got up to 2100 or so, if I ate ice cream and who doesn't eat ice cream once in awhile? I really like the fitbit app for tracking calories. It is very easy especially with the barcode scanner.

I will try to figure out before next week how to post the fitbit reports instead of just typing it in. And I will try to get my step count up to 70,000 for the week! My Glow Run is getting closer, so I need to be ready!
